Arisaig Sailing Club is situated in the village of Arisaig on the west coast of Lochaber. It is an active sports club which provides boats and instruction to people of all ages who join the club and pay a small amount for their membership. The sheltered bay of Loch nan Ceall is a perfect situation for a dingy saling club with members of all levels of competence. Since the club began in 2008 several opportunities to gain certificates have arisen, including trips to Cumbrae Sport Scotland National Sailing Centre and Loch Insh Watersports.
Members must be over the age of 12 (or if under 12, accompanied by an adult). The club meets each Sunday from 11:00 AM from May to October (weather permitting). View the membership form here. The boats that we currently have are: |
Laser Picos are simple and fun dinghies that can be crewed by one or two children or an adult.
The RS Tera is a one man dinghy. It is suitable for introducing newcomers to sailing as it is very easy to sail. The Toppers can also be crewed by one or two children or an adult. They are good for begginers but also for racing. The Laser is a slightly more advanced one or two person boat. They are fast and good racing dinghies. We have a Topper Omega, which is one of our bigger dinghies. It is usually crewed by two or three people. Members who have their own dinghies are very welcome to bring them along. Our other bigger dinghies are the Laser 2000 and the Laser Stratos. |
School Sailing
The Sailing Club has previously provided school time sailing sessions for Arisaig Primary School. They are organised by the local active schools coordinators (Emma Walters and Pam MacDonald). The sessions before the summer holidays, 2013, were very successful. Some of the teenagers from the Club came along to help, and on the last week, the youngsters went off to race in the Chanonry Regatta. Sailing for the Primary School children will start some time in June, and will most likely be from 4-5 on Thursday (however, this day may change).
